Needed to burn some calories following yesterday’s festivities so a couple miles along Carnegie netted two bags and another 80ish pound of trash that, in this case, won’t make it to the waterways!!

Flooding and ice broke the boom away as designed several weeks ago and today finally had the opportunity to put it back to work. Note, I do not have to get in the water for any of this, even when I forgot to hold the trow rope when I sent it sailing to the far…
Just a little dialogue for the first part of the video and then some details on what is happening at this and some other trash booms. 1 bag about 25 pounds.
To my knowledge (I certainly could be wrong) this is a first. Mark Greer of the Akron Bicentennial Commission, Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, Dan Rice and his Team, City of Akron and Riverkeepers Ohio have put together a plan that will truly leave the waterway cleaner when we are done than what is there…
This boom will be located right in front of the Summit Metro Parks Nature Center at the end of Ira.
This is a 5 minute video showing the process of building and installing a boom. We anticipate a pretty good volume of trash collected here and very grateful to Julie Miller and her husband for giving access to this location and the City of Norton who will be picking up our collected trash!
