Update is: There was a very large trash dam upstream just south of Wooster Rd. There was a large volume of oil in that dam but where that originated from is not known. In collaboration, the City of Akron, City of Barberton and the OEPA put in a hard boom downstream, crews entered the water…

The video is from Sunday as we surveyed the location for a cleanup coming Thursday 13th June about 9 am.

Had the opportunity to share with Jetora and Stephanie who the Riverkeepers Ohio are, what we do and what our future holds.
One takeaway from this was meeting some of the dedicated people serving here at the Nature Center (formerly the pump house) on Summit Lake. Another was touring the building and seeing what they have turned the structure into. It now has the pulse and heartbeat of the nature and community that surrounds them. You need…

I met Matt a couple years ago while covering the disastrous oil spill on the Tuscarawas in Barberton.
I learned a lot from both the accident and the man. At the time, Matt was just talking about the new Eco-Maxx facility he was building in Canton. When the time came for the ribbon cutting, he invited me down and I witnessed that he practices what he preaches. Here is a video that speaks…

Picked up materials for the new boom on Summit Lake tomorrow morning!
This boom will be located right in front of the Summit Metro Parks Nature Center at the end of Ira.

Was away for a week and the booms on Summit Lake worked the entire time I was gone, holding all the trash that was trying to get into the lake.
Today’s video is cruising around the lake picking up that trash! The system works! Thanks again to Summit Metro Parks for picking up the trash on the east side and Ohio Erie Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition for grabbing the trash on the west side! Oh, and Thank You to whomever cleaned up some of…
